Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome or PCOS seems to be a buzzword in women’s health these days but what exactly is it? According to https://pcosawarenessmonth.org it is a: “… a serious hormone, metabolic and reproductive disorder that affects women. It is the leading cause of female infertility and a precursor for other serious conditions including obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and endometrial cancer.”

The prevalence of PCOS is undeniable, it is estimated to affect 1 in 10 women of childbearing age.

Indeed, it is a serious condition but 50% of women suffering from it remain undiagnosed. Studies have shown that 50% of those with PCOS will develop Type 2 Diabetes or prediabetes by age 40. It has also been found to significantly increase risk for endometrial, ovarian and breast cancer. It is also the most common cause of infertility.
